Baku, Azerbaijan, Apr. 2
By Rufiz Hafizoglu - Trend:
Four citizens of Russia, who were going to join militants in Syria, were detained in Turkey's Gaziantep Province on the border with Syria, the newspaper Milliyet reported April 2.
The names of the arrested Russians haven't been yet disclosed.
Turkey earlier detained nine British citizens and one citizen of France, who intended to join the militants in Syria.
The Britons and the French were arrested in the province of Kilis near the border with Syria. Their names haven't also been revealed.
Turkey is expected to deport the detainees.
Earlier, the Turkish authorities said the intelligence agencies in the European countries don't provide them with information about the persons who are suspected of terrorist activities, and as a result, these individuals come to Turkey, from where they cross into Syria.
The "Islamic State" (IS, formerly ISIL or ISIS) penetrated Syria's territory in 2013. The organization said at the time it refuses to take the oath of Al-Qaeda and declared "a holy war" against all groups and government forces in Syria.
Strengthening of the IS in Syria allowed it to return to Iraq, deploying military actions against government forces there.
In late June of 2014, the IS announced about the creation of the 'Islamic Caliphate' on the territories under its control in Iraq and Syria. In turn, Iraqi authorities asked the international community for help in fighting the IS.
