People who attempt to carry prohibited goods to prisons to be arrested

Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr. I.Alizadeh / The Azerbaijani Parliament made changes in the legislation to institute proceedings against people who attempt to carry prohibited goods to prisons. Some amendments and supplements were discussed in the Criminal Code and Code of Administrative Violations of Azerbaijan during the Parliamentary session.

The amendments envisage criminal liability against people who will attempt to carry prohibited goods to prisons, as well as state officials who create such conditions, stated chairman of the permanent Parliamentary Commission on Legal Policy and State Building MP Ali Huseynov.

Under the amendments people who will attempt to carry prohibited goods to prisons an isolation cells to be fined from 1,000 to 2,000 conventional currency unit, as well as two years of forced labour or two years of imprisonment.

MPs protested against amendments and supplements in the Code and the document will be re-considered. MPs who represent opposition in Parliament Igbal Agazadeh and Panah Huseyn stated that the proposed changes in the legislation will create condition for corruption in prisons. A national artists and MP Zeynab Khanlarova considers the proposed changes unfair.

MPs who represent the ruling New Azerbaijan Party , Siyavush Novruzov, Mubariz Gurbanov and others supported the proposed changes in the legislation.

The Parliament passed changes after discussions.
