Azerbaijan locates 68 internationally wanted persons

Some 6,857 persons have been brought to justice for various crimes in Azerbaijan in the first half of 2011. Some 48.4 percent - 1,042 out of 2,051 persons, wanted by local and international police, have been arrested.

Some 6,857 persons have been brought to justice for various crimes in Azerbaijan in the first half of 2011. Some 48.4 percent - 1,042 out of 2,051 persons, wanted by local and international police, have been arrested. Some 68 persons, included in international wanted list of Interpol National Central Bureau, have been located, Deputy Interior Minister Vilayat Eyvazov said at the enlarged board meeting on the results of interior agencies' activities for the first half of 2011.

As a result of conducted operational-search measures 95 organized groups and gangs, numbering 308 persons, who have committed serious and heinous crimes, have been rendered harmless. Some 102 people have been brought to justice for illegal possession and carrying of firearms. In addition, 4,382 counterfeit banknotes of domestic and foreign currency in the amount of 382,000 manat have been seized. More than six thousand medicines prohibited for public sale, as well as 185 kg of mercury and about 600 fake educational tools have been also seized.

"As a result of systematic measures undertaken to combat drug trafficking, more than 366 kg of drugs have been seized from illicit trafficking, 22 criminal gangs and a gang, consisting of 57 people, have been rendered harmless. Plants containing narcotic substances, weighing 214 tons have been destroyed. As a result of the work conducted in accordance with the National Action Plan to Combat Trafficking in Persons, 63 facts have been found and 15 people have been brought to criminal responsibility, 26 people - victims of such criminal acts, have been identified," Eyvazov said.
