BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 26. The 142nd session of the UN Human Rights Committee will be held from October 14 through November 8, 2024, Trend reports.

Within the framework of the session, the country reports of Ecuador, France, Greece, Iceland, Pakistan, and Türkiye on the implementation of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights will be listened to.

To note, under the Covenant, the countries that have acceded to the document, following the UN Charter, must promote and respect the right of peoples to self-determination living in the territories held under de facto colonization.

As is known, France is currently at the head of the states pursuing a policy of abhorrent colonialism and neo-colonialism.

The Baku Initiative Group submitted to the UN Human Rights Committee an alternative report entitled “The enduring legacy of French colonialism continues to significantly impede the realization of the right to self-determination: represented by New Caledonia (Kanak) and French Polynesia (Mā'ohi Nu)”, exposing France's colonial policy.

This report has been published on the official website of the UN Human Rights Committee. The report is available at the link below:

The country report of France is to be listened to in the Human Rights Committee on October 22-23 this year.

The Baku Initiative Group, established within the framework of Azerbaijan's chairmanship of the Non-Aligned Movement, has been waging a sustained and systematic struggle against colonialism, supporting the struggle of peoples under the oppression of colonialism and fighting for independence.
