Russian President's Plenipotentiary: Life Conditions of People in Russia's Far East Very Grave

The life conditions of the people in the Russian Far East is grave. The people massively left this region, move to other Russain regions. Over the recent 15 years, every fifth resident of the Far East has left the region. Therefore, the population loss is 20 percent here, Kamil Iskhakov, Plenipotentiary of the Russian President to the Far Eastern Federal Okrug (Region) told during the press-conference being held in Moscow today, Trend Special Correspondent to Moscow reports.

He cited some statistics, according to which, the price of almost all the foods exceeds the corresponding price in Moscow in several times, prices on public utilities in 2.7 times higher than in the central Russian ones.

Mr. Iskhakov linked it with big transport expenses, high rates on electric power, and the lack of necessary infrastructure. Despite the great reserves of natural resources, the massive outflow of the population from this region cannot be interrupted, and the region remains unpopular for the compatriots as before.

He also pointed out that large-scale investment projects are being implemented in the oil and gas sphere. These are Sakhalin-2, the oil pipeline Eastern Siberia-Pacific Ocean, the highways Yakutsk Irkutsk, Khabarovsk-Chita.

Regarding the migration in the Far East, Mr. Iskhakov pointed out that the migration in this region exist both legally and illegally. According to him, no serious conflicts have been observed in this connection, and even if there are local cases, the law enforcement bodies solve them. However Kondopoga might really be repeated in this region, since there are problems, pointed out Mr. Iskhakov.

Answering a question put by Trend Special Correspondent concerning the importance of the Far Eastern Economic Forum held in Khabarovsk on October 5-6, where Mr. Iskhakov could not attend, the Russian President`s Plenipotentiary pointed out that such forums have become frequent recently, and it would be better if they brought a real use in attracting foreign investments in the economy of the region, summarized Mr. Iskhakov.
