Azerbaijan, Shaki, Feb. 2 / Trend , K.Aliyeva/

Bread prices increased 50 percent in Azerbaijan's northwestern Shaki region on Feb. 2. Bakery owners raised prices from 0.2 to 0.3 manat for one loaf.

Today, one loaf has 800 grams and costs 0.3 manat, while yesterday one loaf had 500 grams cost 0.2 manat. A sack of flour costs 13-15 manat depending on the sort in the region.

Shaki bakery owners said flour prices have not changed.

Private bakeries satisfy regional bread demand.

Worried customers said entrepreneurs in the sector use different means to raise prices. They initially increase bread weight by 100- 200 grams and then lower the weight ack after one week, they said.

The Shaki Regional Department of the State Supervisory Service began monitoring the bread market in the region due to the reports.

Azerbaijan lacks state control over bread prices, the department said.

According to the Shaki Standardization and Metrology Department, bread producers must keep bread prices relative to weight.

Although Azerbaijan supervises both bread weight and quality, local entrepreneurs avoid the control.

Shaki is located in northwestern Azerbaijan, 352 kilometers outside Baku.

On Feb. 2, the official exchange rate is 0.8073 manat to $1.
