Food and Agriculture Organization intends to open Baku office by late 2012 (PHOTO)

FAO special adviser to Director-General Mohamad Ruigi arrived in Baku to hold discussions on opening a coordination office of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the Azerbaijani Ministry of Agriculture said on Tuesday.

Azerbaijani Minister of Agriculture Ismat Abbasov stressed the important role of FAO projects in Azerbaijan in diversifying the economy, enhancing food security and developing agricultural regions.

Ruigi appreciated the initiative of opening the FAO coordinating office in Baku, supported by the Azerbaijani President, in the short term as a contribution to strengthen the national, regional and global food security.

It was stressed that the cooperation between Azerbaijan and FAO enters a new phase. The political will and support for opening the FAO coordination office in Baku was also emphasized.

Special adviser said that FAO intends to complete the operations by late 2012 to open the coordination office in Baku.
