Half the arable land planted with grain in Turkmenistan

Half of 860,000 hectares are currently planted with grain. It's planned to collect 1,600,000 million tons of grain in 2013, the Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper reported on Friday. Seeds are planted on 16,000 hectares daily, the article says.

More than 5000 tractors and 2000 seeders are involved in planting.

More than 90,000 tons of high yielding grain varieties have been planted in total starting the planting campaign in August. Soft varieties of wheat such as Batko, Sakhrein, Elotan 1, Bitarap, Juvai as well as a firm variety the Turkmenbashi-1 are used in pasta production.

Turkmen grain growers are planning to collect 1,600,000 tons of wheat next year, Neutral Turkmenistan reports.
