By Rashid Shirinov – Trend:

Kazakhstan's Karaganda region plans to increase the yield of cabbage from 14,000 to 20,000 tons by planting it on 100 additional hectares, Trend reports via Kazakh media.

The reason for this is a strong rise in cabbage price in the region - by 70.7 percent - since the stocks of cabbage in the region are over and now it is imported from Uzbekistan.

Prices for other vegetables and grocery products are regulated thanks to stocks in the stabilization fund. Presently, there are 1,198 tons of potatoes, 50 tons each of carrots and beets, 68 tons of buckwheat, rice and sugar. Some 136 tons of sugar and 50,000 liters of sunflower oil are purchased additionally.

It should be noted that next year construction of a 27-hectare large shopping center will begin in Karaganda, where about 130,000 types of food will be sold.
