Over 31 tons of saffron purchased in Iran’s Razavi Khorasan province

More than 31 tons of saffron were purchased from farmers in Iran’s Razavi Khorasan province, said Head of the Razavi Khorasan province Agriculture Cooperative Department Mehdi Naseri Moghaddam, Trend reports via IRNA.

Moghaddam noted that the purchase of saffron by Razavi Khorasan province Agriculture Cooperative Department under guarantee terms is welcomed by the farmers.

The department head added that the purchase began on Nov. 1 and will last until Dec. 21.

“Depending on the type, 1 kilogram of saffron is bought from farmers for 82-105 million rials (about $1,950-2,500),” Moghaddam noted.

Last Iranian year (March 21, 2018 - March 21, 2019), the saffron cultivated area in the Razavi Khorasan province was 87,700 hectares, and 298 tons of saffron were harvested from this area.

This Iranian year (began March 21, 2019) saffron has been planted on an area of ​​90,000 hectares and it is predicted that over 350 tons of saffron will be harvested.
