Spain delivers new electric train to Uzbekistan

Spanish company Patentes Talgo S.L.U. is sending new Afrosiyob high-speed electric train in Uzbekistan, in accordance with the agreement concluded with Uzbekistan Railways Trend reports with reference to the Uzbekistan Railways.

The train has already arrived at the Russian port of St. Petersburg on a ship from the Spanish port of Bilbao. At this stage of delivery, the specialists of Uzbekistan Railways, together with Russian colleagues, will begin work on installing a modern electric train on the rails and deliver it to Uzbekistan.

This will be the sixth Afrosiab delivered to Uzbekistan. Currently, trains of this modification run on routes from Tashkent to Samarkand, Jizzak, Navoi, Bukhara and Karshi. In the coming years, after the completion of electrification on the new section of the Bukhara-Khiva railway, the high-speed train route will continue to Khorezm.

The train includes VIP, business and economy class carriages, as well as a bistro carriage. Train develops a speed of up to 230 km/h (maximum speed according to the technical characteristics of 250 km/h), covering the distance from Tashkent to Samarkand in 2 hours 08 minutes, to Bukhara - 3 hours 51 minutes and to Karshi - 3 hours 21 minutes.

Each train consists of 2 head locomotives and 11 carriages, including 1 bistro, 2 VIP, 2 business and 6 economy. The number of seats on the train is 286.

In June 2019, Uzbekistan Railways signed a contract with the Spanish company Patentes Talgo S.L.U. for the purchase of two high-speed electric trains of the Talgo-250 series. The contract value was 57.5 million euros. The first train arrived in Tashkent at the end of July, 2021, the second will be delivered in the coming days.
