TEHRAN, Iran, Sept.25
Trend:
Iran has imported more than 150,000 tons of hay from Russia, said the head of Iran’s Livestock Provision Council Mansour Pourian, Trend reports citing ILNA.
The import of hay became necessary due to recent drought in Iran, he said.
"Issues with importing basic commodities could be resolved via barter and Iran's main problem is import, but barter is one of possible options," Pourian said, explaining that Iran has increased its barter with other countries due to sanctions limiting the Islamic Republic's banking transactions.
He said in recent years Iran bartered oil with Russia in return for livestock, therefore Iran’s Livestock Provision Council suggested the Agriculture Ministry bartering live livestock, however no response came back yet.
Pourian also pointed out that one of other problems is that due to necessity to return the foreign currency revenues from exports has forced many exporters to shut down their businesses.
