Iran unveils volume of saffron to be harvested in Kerman Province

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Nov. 15

In total, 4.8 tons of saffron is expected to be harvested in the Kerman Province (south-eastern Iran) in the current Iranian year (March 21, 2021 through March 20, 2022), Director for the Agriculture Department of Kerman Province Abbas Saeedi said, Trend reports citing the department’s website.

The director noted that this is an increase of 4 percent, compared to the same period last Iranian year.

Saeedi also added that saffron has been planted on about 1,780 hectares of land in the Kerman Province. On average, 4 kg of saffron will be taken from each hectare.

“The area under saffron in the province for the current Iranian year, increased by 5 percent, compared to last Iranian year,” he said.

According to Saeedi, the most volume of saffron was planted in Zarand, Baft and Kuhbanan counties of the province.

"Saffron is one of the medicinal plants, and increasing the cultivation of medicinal plants that need less water is one of the main priorities of the province’s agricultural department," the director said.
