Azerbaijan, Baku / corr Trend U.Ismayilova / To resolve problem in the construction sector in Azerbaijan it is necessary to apply major construction norms, Natig Shirinzade, the President of the Caspian Integration and Business Club (CIBC), said on 4 September.

Five major principles should be applied for the Azerbaijani construction companies:

- obligatory attestation of claimants while licensing the construction work

- special skills of workers for conduct of construction work

- required conformity of construction materials to necessary standards

- right supervision over use of machines and mechanisms used in construction

- mandatory testing of construction materials at special laboratories and insurance of construction work

Shirinzade said that only with the consideration of above mentioned rules will it be possible to avoid the recent incidents that have occurred.

Speaking in the quality of construction materials, Shirinzade said that Azerbaijan's annual demand of cement is 4 mln tons, of which 1 mln tons falls on import and 3mln tons on local production.

Azerbaijan imports cement mainly from Georgia (Rustavi Cement, Caspiy Cement and Euro Cement), as well as from Russia, which cannot cover even 80% of the domestic demand.

Shirinzade noted that at present, Azerbaijan is developing 3 new projects on construction of a cement factory to cover the country's demand in this product.

A 16-story building collapsed in one of the central streets of Baku on 28 August. At this time, the collapse is believed to be caused by uneven foundation and miscalculation during the construction work
