TANAP gas deliveries to Turkey down

BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 31

By Leman Zeynalova – Trend:

Natural gas deliveries to Turkey via the Trans Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline (TANAP) have decreased since 23 February 2021 due to the technical failures in production wells in Azerbaijan, Trend reports citing Energy Exchange Istanbul (EXIST).

EXIST said that natural gas delivery from the Azerbaijani supply source via TANAP entry point decreased on February 23, 2021 due to a technical malfunction in gas production wells in Azerbaijan and this low delivery is still continuing.

“The supply deficit is covered by storage facilities, LNG terminals and other supply sources. In this context, gas supply continues to our cities, industrial facilities and natural gas cycle power plants without any interruptions,” said EXIST.

TANAP is the longest section of the Southern Gas Corridor, which is also comprised of Shah Deniz 2, the South Caucasus Pipeline Expansion and the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP).

Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) AG confirmed on Dec. 31 the commencement of gas flows from Azerbaijan. The first gas has reached Greece and Bulgaria, via the Nea Mesimvria interconnection point with DESFA, as well as Italy, via the Melendugno interconnection point with SNAM Rete Gas (SRG).

TAP transports natural gas from the giant Shah Deniz field in the Azerbaijan sector of the Caspian Sea to Europe. The 878 km long pipeline connects with the Trans Anatolian Pipeline (TANAP) at the Turkish-Greek border in Kipoi, crosses Greece and Albania and the Adriatic Sea, before coming ashore in Southern Italy.
