The number of hybrid cars and the demand for them are increasing in Azerbaijan, Eldaniz Jafarov, public relations specialist at the Toyota Center Baku told Trend.

“Cars with a hybrid engine have existed for more than 20 years. They have been officially sold in Azerbaijan since 2012. The official dealer of the Japanese Toyota Motor Corporation in our country created their service, Jafarov said.

“Currently, hybrid sedans and crossovers are officially sold in Azerbaijan, and their total number on the roads is more than 5,000. But most of these cars are old, and they can be attributed to cars that have specifications of the American market. The relatively low price and fuel economy make these cars attractive. It would be nice if our citizens did not buy old, but new European hybrid cars,” the expert added.

“Also, cars with hybrid engines can be attributed to a more environmentally friendly type of vehicles. Hybrid cars are quite affordable for cities with a large population. Thanks to the smart system of the car, the electric motor works when the speed is low. A very small amount of CO2 (Carbon Dioxide) waste is released into the air at this time,” Jafarov noted.

“The hybrid car provides zero fuel consumption at a speed of 50 kilometers per hour, the sound radiation of such cars is 50 percent quieter than others. I also note that hybrid cars do not need to be additionally connected to a power source to charge the batteries. The intelligent system of Japanese technology accumulates energy during the movement of the car, and then effectively uses it, said Jafarov.

The experts also noted the high level of service organization in Azerbaijan, which increased citizens' confidence in these cars, adding that citizens are clearly convinced of the real usability of hybrids. Decrease in duties on hybrid cars stimulates renewal of Azerbaijan’s fleet in their favor.

“Such cars are more economically advantageous for citizens, since a hybrid requires less maintenance than traditional cars. These cars use a built-in engine and an electric engine. These two engines operate in free mode independently of each other. The hybrid electric motor and battery are virtually maintenance free and more reliable than internal combustion engines,” said the expert.

“By the end of 2020, about 20 percent of the world's electronic cars will be with electric engine, and about 75 percent will be hybrid cars. Since many countries lack electromobile infrastructure, the hybrid cars will remain a priority. And in this segment, Japanese cars are an example,” Jafarov concluded.
