Kyrgyz government working on economic development program

The Kyrgyz government revises its policy for development of the regions in view of main priorities identified in the country's mid-term development program for 2012-2014, acting Prime Minister Omurbek Babanov said at the meeting in Osh,CA-NEWS reported.

During the meeting the preparedness of economic sectors and population of southern Kyrgyzstan for upcoming heating season 2011-2012 was reviewed.

A new concept of the state regional policy is being developed now. The Economic Regulation Ministry is drafting a program for economic development of southern parts of the country.

"The socio-economic development of the country is connected with development of the regions", Babanov said. The positive trends in the country's economy are observed. The GDP amounted to 189.2 billion som for 9 months of 2011 and grew by 8.7% compared to the same period of the previous year.

"According to preliminary estimations, around 30% of GDP of the country is generated by the southern regions. I think this figure is not limit. In fact, the southern regions of the country have a huge and not utilized potential," Babanov emphasized.
