Establishment of a Kurdish state in northern Syria by terrorist Kurdistan Workers' Party means a growing terror threat for Turkey, due to which Ankara will not allow it, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said in an interview with Turkish television channel 24 TV.
"We will not take a Kurdish state in northern Syria as a state of the Kurdish people. This will be a terrorist formation, which is a sensitive theme in Turkey," Erdogan said.
He said Ankara will not follow the situation in northern Syria with arms folded, and it will surely take the necessary steps to prevent appearance of such formation.
Erdogan also said that next week Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu will visit Kurdish Autonomy in northern Iraq to discuss the situation.
Anti-government protests have continued in Syria for more than a year.
They turned into an armed struggle between the opposition and units of the power structures of the country. Reports about new armed incidents and victims appear on a regular basis. This is despite the country having declared a truce since mid-April according to UN-Arab League special envoy to Syria Kofi Annan's plan.
According to UN, the total number of victims of the conflict in Syria has exceeded 12,000 people. About 230,000 people became refugees.
