Installing digital traffic lights in Baku will be considered duringthe second phase of the intellectual transport management system, Azerbaijani Transport Ministry spokesman Namig Hasanov told Trend on Thursday.

He said all traffic lights in Baku meet modern requirements.

"In accordance with the system, 150 junctions in Baku must be controlled, and in this process traffic lights are of great importance. It will determined to what extend existing traffic lights enable introducing the intellectual transport management system, and whether it is necessary to change them," Hasanov said.

Transport Policy and Economics Department head Sadraddin Mammadov earlier said it is planned to commission the system by 2014-2015.

The system will be developed in three stages. The first phase was launched in late 2011 and it is planned to start work within the second phase.

The system cost is over $95 million.
