Afghanistan offered Turkmenistan to construct a railroad line Imamnazar-Akina on Afghan territory, the State Information Agency Turkmen Dovlet Khabarlary reported on Friday.
According to the report, authorized representatives of the two countries are negotiating in Ashgabat recent days.
"Representatives of the Afghan delegations suggested the participation of Turkmen specialists in the development of a feasibility study and construction of Imamnazar-Akin railway line in Afghanistan," the report says.
In May, 2011, during the official visit of the President of Afghanistan to Turkmenistan the parties signed an inter-governmental framework agreement on the construction of Atamyrat-Imamnazar-Akina-Andhoi railroad.
The state information agency of Turkmenistan notes that at that time President Gurbanguly Berdimuhammedov offered to realize the project of the railway construction from Turkmenistan to Afghanistan with the perspective of its further extension in Afghan territory.
It was about the construction of two railway sections: 85-kilometer Atamyrat-Imamnazar line in Turkmenistan and 38-kilometer line from Imamnazar to to Andhoi settlement in Afghanistan.
Turkmenistan has informed the Afghan colleagues that almost all the design work on the construction of Atamyrat-Imamnazar section had been completed," the report says. The construction of this branch will be conducted by the structures of the Ministry of Railway Transport of Turkmenistan.
According to the report, participants of the meeting noted that realization of joint infrastructure projects will be a powerful impetus to further development of Afghan economy, successful solution of important social issues, including those related to employment, investment attraction and will have a positive impact on the situation in the country as a whole.
