Ukraine creates working group to map out new routes for energy supplies from Azerbaijan

Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovich signed a decree on the formation of a working group to map out new routes for energy supplies from Azerbaijan through Ukraine's territory, Ukrainian President's official website reported.

Ukrainian Energy and Coal Industry Minister Yuriy Boyko was appointed as head of the working group.

Yanukovych also approved a personal composition of the working group, which included Chairman of the State Agency for Investment and National Projects Management Vladyslav Kaskiv (Deputy Head of the Working Group), Adviser to the President of Ukraine and Head of the Main Directorate for International Relations Andrei Goncharuk, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Naftogaz of Ukraine" Eugene Korneichuk, Head of the Ukrainian Energy and Coal Industry Ministry's Department for oil, gas, peat, petroleum industry and alternative fuels, Igor Kiryushin, Deputy Foreign Minister Viktor Maiko and Head of the Presidential Administration Sergei Lyovochkin.

Ukraine and Azerbaijan reached an agreement on the Azerbaijani oil deliveries to Ukraine during President Viktor Yanukovych's visit to Baku in April 2011. Azerbaijani Industry and Energy Minister Natig Aliyev and Yuriy Boyko signed the agreement between the governments of Azerbaijan and Ukraine on measures to promote cooperation in the oil transportation through Ukraine in Davos in January 2011.

Today, the Azerbaijani and Ukrainian national oil and gas companies are parties to an international pipeline consortium Sarmatia, which involves the construction and operation of the Brody-Plotsk-Gdansk pipeline project. Transportation of the Azerbaijani oil through the Odessa-Brody pipeline, both to Ukrainian and Belarusian oil refineries, has already been launched.
