Azerbaijan can work out an acceptable form of cooperation with the Eurasian project, editor in chief of the Bulletin of the Caucasus and deputy dean of the History department of Moscow State University Alexey Vlasov says.
"Azerbaijan has many more interesting features than Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, for working successfully with the Eurasian project: Azerbaijan is an economically developed country with a stable social and political system that does not depend on Chinese counterfeiting, as happens with some Russian partners and has its own brands and format of cooperation," Mr Vlasov told reporters in Baku.
Vladimir Putin previously presented the concept of a fundamentally new format of cooperation, the Eurasian Union in late 2011.
Mr Vlasov said the Eurasian project is an opportunity to strengthen competitive advantages.
"If Azerbaijan has a desire to create a format for cooperation, even not joining the Eurasian project, then I think it could only be a plus for the countries of the Eurasian region and Azerbaijan itself," Mr Vlasov said.
He does not believe that Baku is ready to enter into a Eurasian Union at the moment, "but it can work out an acceptable form of cooperation with the Eurasian project. "
Mr Vlasov said that Mr Putin in an article on the concept of a Eurasian Union, considered it as a kind of greater purpose which allows the restart of Russian relations with the entire post-Soviet zone, not only with partner countries of the Common Economic area,, but with Azerbaijan as well and perhaps, more widely.
This ideology can be used with respect to Turkey and some Middle East countries, those which are willing to act as equal partners of Russia, Mr Vlasov concluded
