SOCAR to drill new prolific gas-condensate well in Caspian Sea

SOCAR (State Oil Company of Azerbaijan) plans to launch drilling of prolific exploitation gas-condensate well from the platform of "March 8 - 730" at the offshore field of the same name developed by the company independently during October, SOCAR said on September 29.

"Presently, preparatory operations are held now. Drilling is expected to be launched in October," a source said.

He said that the crane ship is expected to be transported. It will carry equipment necessary for drilling from the platform "March 8 - 578" to platform "March 8 - 730.

Earlier SOCAR planned to launch drilling of a new well on the platform No 578.

It was decided to postpone installation of the platform No 730 and start drilling here due to extraction from other wells is hampered while installation of drilling equipment.

"After transfer it is necessary to install the equipment and begin drilling," a source said.

The project total depth of the well is 5,800 meters, a source said. Expected daily production is about 350,000 cubic meters of gas and 40 tons of condensate.

At present, about 420,000 cubic meters of gas are being extracted daily from the deposit of 'March 8'. Geologists of the company have determined nine points for further drilling, SOCAR said.
