Kazakh national oil company KazMunaiGas will finalise technical and economical calculations for the construction of a fourth large oil refinery in Kazakhstan in 2015, managing director of the Sovereign Wealth Fund Samruk-Kazyna joint-stock company, Malik Salimgereev said at a briefing in Astana on Wednesday.
"In 2014, the national company plans to begin technical and economical calculations and estimates for the construction of a fourth refinery with an expected completion date in 2015," he said. "Accordingly, the information about the possible location of the refinery and provision with raw materials will appear in 2015."
Salimgereev recalled that three major refineries in the country, namely Atyrau, Pavlodar and Shymkent are being upgraded.
"After the modernisation, the need for a fourth refinery may occur no earlier than 2025," Salimgereev added.
