Entec Launches Implementation of ADB Project on Technical Assistance in Application of Alternative Energy Sources in Azerbaijan

A mission of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) headed by the Bank's specialist on energy sector, Tianhua Leo, is scheduled to visit Azerbaijan from November 20 to 28. Trend has been informed at the Government that the mission will include a representative of the Swiss-Indian Consortium Entec, a consultant of the ADB on the project on technical assistance in the application of alternative energy sources in Azerbaijan. The meeting will mull the place of consultant, as well as, attraction of a local consultant to the implementation of the project.

A total of $900,000 has been allocated for conduct of researches with respect to define different ways and potential for the development of recoverable energy resources. $200,000 of the total was allotted at

the expense of the grant of the Finnish government, $500,000 the ADB and $200,000 the Azerbaijani Government. The grant agreement was signed on May 26, 2006.

The technical assistance is allocated for 10 months. As soon as the development of the project is complete the Asian Development Bank will approve $40mln for its implementation. Part of the credit ($25mln) will be allotted in privileged terms, while another part ($15mln) ordinary terms.

The key objective of the project is to provide the regions with alternative energy sources with the use of wind mills, mini-hydraulic and sun power grids. It is necessary for support of the agriculture activities in the regions.
