Drilling in Large Azerbaijani Off-Shore Field Profoundly Expands

Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend / Some 13,240 metres were drilled in Azerbaijani Oil Rocks fields within a period of five months during 2007, which is an increase of 32.6% than was forecasted, the head of the Oil Rocks Oil and Gas Production Department of the Azneft production unit of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic, Shamiddin Jahandarov , reported.

According to Jahandarov , the construction of five wells was completed within five months, while four were initially planned. The drilling of eight wells has begun, even though seven were initially planned. Six new wells were drilled in the fields of the Oil and Gas Production Department from January to May, while five were initially planned

In accordance with the decree of Azerbaijani President, Ilham Aliyev, production in the Oil Rocks was to be increased from 821,000 tons per year up to 1.2mln tons per year. New five-block platform-1887 was set up in the field to resolve these issues. Thirty-six wells will be drilled from the platform.

According to the estimations of geologists some 1,000 tons of oil will be produced from the wells every 24 hours. As a result of the platform, oil production in the field this year is planned to be amounted to 920,000 tons per year.

Another new platform for the Oil Rocks is being constructed at the Baku Deep Jackets Plant named after Heydar Alilyev . Platform-2415 will consist of two blocks. One of the blocks is now opperational . In total, six platforms will be set up on 78 wells in the Oil Rocks. The wells will be drilled on the blocks where oil has not yet been produced.
