BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 25. Azerbaijan and Russia are currently working on the consolidation of cargo bases to improve transportation and logistics infrastructure within the framework of the Agroexpress project, Director General of the Autonomous Non-profit Organization on Assistance in the Development of Agro-industrial Activities "Eurasian Agrologistics", Doctor of Technical Sciences Professor Alevtina Kirillova said, Trend reports.
She spoke at a video conference between media representatives and the trade delegation of Russia in Azerbaijan.
"The main reason is the lack of such consolidation logistics centers and agro-hubs in sufficient quantity, because you can't launch a train from every farm, and motor transport can't take with such frequency the volume of cargo that needs to be exported to retail enterprises," she said.
According to her, negotiations are underway with ADY Express, as well as with Alliance Logistics to form a cargo base that will also deal with perishable products that require temperature control, dry products (nuts, dried fruits, grain legumes), and consumer goods to launch the train on a regular basis.
"There are also plans to launch a simplified corridor between the veterinary and phytosanitary authorities of the two countries to prevent delays at the border and fast electronic processing of documents, which will speed up delivery times. At the moment, we are working on this and hope that next year we will be able to establish a regular route," she added.
