TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, October 31. Uzbekistan plans implementation of toll roads starting from January 1, 2025 as part of the project of advancing the country’s road infrastructure to improve efficiency and enhance quality, Trend reports.
The project includes design, construction and reconstruction of public highways in accordance with international requirements for high-speed traffic, and their transfer in the future to the category of toll roads if there are alternative roads.
Thus, in 2025, it is planned to build toll roads in the direction of Tashkent - Andijan, Tashkent – Samarkand and a toll tunnel at the Takhtakoracha pass.
Some other changes in the road infrastructure include involvement of the private sector in management of public roads. The endeavor will initially focus on roads up to 20 kilometers in length located in Uzbekistan’s region of Karakalpakstan, with the aim of exploring the benefits and challenges associated with private sector involvement in road management.
Overall, Uzbekistan is actively engaged in the enhancement and modernization of its transportation systems to elevate the quality and efficiency of cargo transportation.
Significant investments are directed towards the expansion and modernization of the road network, the improvement of rail transport conditions, the modernization of airports, and the development of seaports.
