Tens of thousands of demonstrators were gathered in central Cairo Friday for their 11th day of protest against President Hosny Mubarak, which they've dubbed "Day of Departure."
The scene around Tahrir Square, where violent clashes between protestors and government supporters took place earlier in the week, was calm overnight, DPA reported.
At least 830 people were injured in clashes that erupted Wednesday and spilled over to the following morning.
The army maintained a strong presence on the square, with around 1,000 soldiers positioned in central Cairo on Friday.
Hundreds of thousands are expected to join the demonstration, while similar protests are planned for other cities.
Pro-Mubarak groups are meanwhile planning a "Day of Loyalty."
Mubarak has ruled Egypt for nearly 30 years, using strict emergency laws which grant police wide-ranging powers. Amid a massive demonstration by hundreds of thousands on Tahrir Square on Tuesday, Mubarak announced he would not run re-election.
On Thursday, the 82-year-old leader told the US broadcaster ABC that he wants to resign but warned that Egypt would descend into chaos if he did.
