The close circles of the family of the Emir of Qatar Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani today refuted the information spread by several Arab media outlets regarding an attempt at the Emir, in which he was wounded, and eight of his bodyguards were killed, ITAR-TASS reported.

"These rumors are untrue and have no real justification," a source close to the family of the Emir said today.

The Egyptian El Fagr newspaper reported that the escort of the Emir experienced an attack in Doha, when the head of state was going to his palace after meeting with the Russian ambassador in one of the palaces in the Qatari capital. The newspaper confirms that a suicide bomber rammed a car into the column of cars, as a result of which eight bodyguards were killed, and the Emir was wounded in the thigh. The newspaper said skirmish occurred during the attack. The same information was today published by the Algerian Al-Fajr newspaper.

Meanwhile, the Russian Embassy in Doha also denied the report. The third secretary of the embassy Alex Kocheshkov said "this information does not correspond to reality", ITAR-TASS reported. "The media reports that there was a meeting with Russian ambassador have no grounds, since the head of the diplomatic mission was on vacation at this time and no meeting was scheduled," he said.
