Political prisoners in Bahrain have ended their hunger strike after negotiations with various parties, the Ministry of Human Rights and Social Development announced Tuesday Xinhua reported
"The Ministry is satisfied that the efforts of all parties succeeded in terminating the strike," Undersecretary of Human Rights Saeed Al-Faihani said.
The General Inspector of the Interior Ministry Ibrahim Habib confirmed on Jan. 30 reports that some convicted inmates were involved in a hunger strike demanding their release.
The strikers are mainly Bahrainis who were convicted in relation to the unrest that occurred early 2011, including 14 political and religious leaders who were accused of masterminding a plot to overthrown the regime and sentenced to life imprisonment.
The general inspector said that all the inmates have been provided with regular medical care available 24 hours a day. He said none of the hunger strikers have reported exhaustion or illness and all the inmates have been given their daily meals according to prison regulations.
