The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) is concerned by the growing unrest in Egypt, the Secretary General of the OIC, Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu said, the organization's press-release published on Monday said.

Ihsanoglu called on the conflicting parties to employ calm and common sense.

"The conflicting sides in Egypt should not lose their self-control and should decide the fate of their country without violence via legal means," Ihsanoglu said.

Mass demonstrations demanding the resignation of the current president Mohamed Morsi are being carried out in Egypt.

The organizers of the demonstrations claim that they have collected more than 22 million signatures for Morsi's resignation. June 30 is the anniversary of his ascent to power.

The supporters of the president also gathered for a mass rally in Cairo, "to support the legally elected president."
