New facility commissioned on SOCAR Kulevi oil terminal

The Black Sea oil terminal of SOCAR (State Oil Company of Azerbaijan) in Kulevi (Georgia) has completed construction of a new railway overpass for loading of liquid pyrolysis resin into tankers directly from the rail tank cars (RTC), said the message of the terminal posted on its website.

The message said that the project, which was prepared in accordance with international standards, includes the construction of a new pumping station and the loading line, which has been integrated into the existing technological system of the terminal.

"Putting the facility in operation has been carried out by qualified personnel of the terminal," said the message. "All stages of the launch process were carried out in accordance with the procedures for hazard identification and risk assessment of the terminal. Stage of commissioning was successfully completed by unloading of the first tank and loading of liquid pyrolysis resin into "Nilufer Sultan" sea tanker."

The terminal in Georgia's Kulevi was commissioned in May 2008 and the oil transshipment started in June of the same year. The total capacity of the terminal is 10 million metric tons of bulk-oil cargo per year, three million metric tons of oil, three million metric tons of diesel fuel and four million metric tons of fuel oil.

The total capacity of the terminal's tank farm is 320,000 cubic meters with the possibility of reaching 380,000 cubic meters.
