Azerbaijani Opposition Party Activist’s Health Worsens
Azerbaijan, Baku, 5 March / Trend corr. A.Salmanov / The health of Musa Rahim, an activist of the Azerbaijani National Independent Party (ANIP), who is serving a sentence in correction prison 10, is worsening, Ennagi Mammadli, Rahim's attorney said to Trend .
Rahim was detained at the end of August 2007. Rahim was charged with Article 221.2 (hooliganism) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan and sentenced to five years imprisonment.
Mammadli appealed to the head of correction prison 10 to transfer Rahim to the Penitentiary Service medical centre.
ANIP was the first party to receive registration in Azerbaijan in 1992. Etibar Mammadov was the founder and Chairman of the party to 2004. Mammadov is currently the Deputy Chairman of the International Democratic Alliance.
