The Georgian Foreign Ministry sent a protest note to Russia today.

Georgian Deputy Foreign Minister Nino Kalandadze said at a traditional briefing today that the note addressed actions of the Russian government that have caused serious concern in Tbilisi.

Kalandadze said they include the decision of the Tskhinvali separatist regime to register the ethnic Georgian population in Akhalgori and to confiscate their property, as well as to place a Smerch missile system in the occupied territory.

"The deployment of such weapons was prohibited by a treaty limiting conventional arms in Europe," she said. "When Russia announced its withdrawal from the treaty, we feared that it would act freely in the occupied territories."

Kalandadze said the Georgian Foreign Ministry has also appealed to all of its partner countries and informed them about the official note of protest sent to the Russian side.
