Leader of the Free Democrats Party Irakli Alasania discussed the political situation in Georgia at a meeting with the U.S. Senator John McCain. The conversation also touched upon the issue of a power change through elections, Alasania told Georgian television companies.

"Senator McCain knows well that in 2012-2013 a peaceful change of power through elections will be held in Georgia. This will be a guarantor of strengthening the democratic institutions in our country and forming a democratic society in Georgia," he said.

It was Alasania's third meeting in Washington. He also met with White House and State Department representatives, and attended an annual luncheon with the U.S. president.

At his meeting with Barack Obama, the situation in Egypt was discussed.
