On Wednesday, Vice-President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Leyla Aliyeva met with Astrakhan Region Governor Alexander Zhilkin, Trend special correspondent in Astrakhan reports.
At the meeting, Zhilkin noted that the relations between Azerbaijan and the Astrakhan region are an indication of the strategic and friendly relations between Azerbaijan and Russia.
"Astrakhan is a home to quite large Azerbaijani diaspora, and it is one of the most active in the region. It is very nice to note that Azerbaijanis are involved in many areas, including leading positions," the governor said.
Zhilkin said the Heydar Aliyev Foundation has done a lot during this period.
"A lot of projects showing the level of our relations, which are due to friendly relations between the two heads of state, have been implemented," Zhilkin said.
Leyla Aliyeva noted that this year marks the fifth year of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation's representation in Russia.
"One of the first representations of the Foundation was formed in Russia. During this time, the Foundation has implemented many projects. We are pleased that in Astrakhan the Foundation is implementing a lot of projects. Azerbaijan and Russia have many years of friendship and good neighborliness. It is due to these projects that friendship will strengthen," Leyla Aliyeva said.
She said one of the most active groups of the Azerbaijani Youth Organization of Russia is in Astrakhan.
Leyla Aliyeva noted that the representation of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation in Russia plans to implement projects to protect the environment, called IDEA.
Essay contest on environmental protection is planned to be held among schoolchildren of Astrakhan, she added.
