BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 27. Baku hosted the official opening ceremony of the Research Center of the Non-Aligned Movement Youth Organization (NAMYO), Trend reports.
The event was attended by government officials, ambassadors, representatives, and staff of UN agencies in Azerbaijan, as well as renowned scientists and researchers.
The event began with a ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the opening of the Research Center, supported by the Azerbaijan International Development Assistance Agency (AIDA) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan.
Afterwards, Leyla Hasanova, Chair of AIDA and COP29 Youth Climate Champion, presented the library and various resources of the Center to the guests.
The opening ceremony, moderated by AIDA International Relations and Research Center Coordinator Syama Bagirova, began with a welcoming speech by Yalchin Rafiyev, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan and COP29 Chief Negotiator.
He emphasized the important role of the MODN Research Center in developing the scientific and technical potential of young researchers from NAM member countries.
According to Rafiyev, the Center will make a meaningful contribution to the active participation of young people in addressing global challenges, taking into account their priorities and perspectives.
Then, UN Resident Coordinator in Azerbaijan Vladanka Andreeva made a speech, noting the importance of sharing knowledge and experience to enhance youth participation in sustainable development.
Following this, Leyla Hasanova emphasized that the Research Center is a unique platform turning the ideas of NAM youth into knowledge and bringing their voice to the global arena.
The ceremony ended with the screening of a video about the projects implemented by NAM during the period of its activity.
The event continued with the presentation of the Research Center Manager, Kamilla Mammadova, who talked about the main directions of the Center's work and its annual plan. Within the framework of Azerbaijan's chairmanship in COP29, the Center will study innovative approaches in the field of environmental protection, preservation of ecological balance, and effective water resources management.
The future directions of the Center's activities, priority scientific research, and possible formats of cooperation were also discussed during the event.
