Today, on September 28, Azerbaijan`s President Ilham Aliyev has approved a plan of complex actions for 2006-2010 aimed at the improvement of the ecological situation in the country, Trend reports. The document points out that the recent rapid development of the Azerbaijani economy, including its extracting, processing industries, and construction sector has been accompanied by the growth of the anthropogenic influence on the environment.
The normative indicators of the soil, water, and air pollution exceed the norms. The process on the drinking water decrease, the forest areas reduction, the land erosion, as well as landslides, and desertification processes has activated.
Facts on the environment polluting with oil and refined products, agrochemicals, and domestic waste has became a frequent phenomenon in the industrial areas of the Absheron Peninsula, Kura-Araks Lowland, Baku, Sumgayit, Ganja, Mingachavir, and Ali-Bayramli.
In order to prevent the environment pollution and improve the ecological situation, it is necessary, particularly, the fulfillment of a number of important measures, including cleaning of the water reservoirs from the wastewater ( the coastal line of the Caspian Sea, the water reservoirs of the Absheron Peninsula, etc.), reconstruction of the drainage systems, restoration of spoiled territories.
With the aim to reduce the anthropogenic influence on the environment and fulfill complex measures to eliminate the existing ecological problems, the Azerbaijani President decided to approve the complex actions plan for 2006-2010 on improvement of the ecological situation in the country, and commissioned to the Cabinet of Ministers to provide the appraisal of the measures stipulated by this plan and determine the sources of financing.
