BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 26. The European Commission has granted 594 million euros from the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) to 8 cross-border energy projects, Trend reports.

The funds support various CO2 projects, including 189 million euros for D'Artagnan, a CO2 export hub in the port of Dunkirk, France; 157 million euros for CO2 infrastructure in the port of Rotterdam, Netherlands, involving an import terminal and a 200 km undersea trunkline, and 2.54 million euros for the EU CCS Interconnector, a CO2 infrastructure project in Gdansk, Poland.

The Northern Lights initiative, connecting CO2 capture efforts in EU Member States and Norway, has also received 131 million euros. These projects contribute to establishing an EU-wide carbon value chain as the Commission works on a new strategy for industrial carbon management to meet climate goals.

Furthermore, 100 million euros will go to the Gabreta smart grids project between Czechia and Germany. The Lonny-Achêne-Gramme electricity interconnector project between France and Belgium has received 1.22 million euros for studies.

Finally, 12.77 million euros will support the Depomures natural gas storage facility in Romania to enhance its working capacity and contribute to the region's security of supply.
