Uzbekistan to build copper processing plant

BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 18

By Ilkin Seyfaddini - Trend:

The Uzbek government has allocated territory for the construction of a copper processing plant, Trend reports citing a decree of the head of state.

During a month, the administration of Tashkent region and Almalyk mining-and-smelting plant will hold open discussions with owners, users and tenants of land plots planned for withdrawal, with evaluation of benefits and costs. This is provided for by the decision of the president of Uzbekistan on measures to further expand industrial production in Tashkent province.

In particular, the copper processing plant of Almalyk MMC and the storage facility for the remains of the enrichment process shall be built on a territory with a total area of more than 3,768 hectares in Tashkent region, of which 1,616 hectares have already been allocated on the basis of a decision by the Tashkent Region administration, and 25 hectares - by the Piskent Region administration.

At the same time, the project requires another 1415 hectares in Piskent district for construction of storage facility and 712 hectares in Piskent and Ahangaran districts for construction of infrastructure.

As expected, the inventory and open discussions will result in fair compensation for the damage caused to individuals and legal entities in connection with the withdrawal of land plots at the expense of the Almalyk mining and processing plant. The land may be withdrawn only after the compensation issue is resolved.

Almalyk MMC will compensate for the following types of damages:

- Losses incurred by owners, users and tenants of land plots, as well as losses of agricultural and forestry production;

- Costs incurred by owners, users and tenants of land plots for assessing the incurred losses;

- Expenses for provision of new individual housing under construction and other facilities of individuals whose residential houses are to be demolished due to withdrawal of land plots for state and public needs by the relevant engineering and communication networks.
