By Rashid Shirinov – Trend:
Kazakhstan produced 173 100 tons of salt in the first three quarters of 2018, Energyprom.kz reported.
This is 11.7 percent more than in the same period last year.
About a third of salt production covers more than 90 percent of the country's demand, and the rest is exported. In the first 8 months of this year, exports amounted to 114,300 tons, which is an increase of 22.8 percent year-on-year.
Almost all production (98.8 percent) is concentrated in the Kyzylorda region of the country, where the main salt producer of Kazakhstan Araltuz JSC operates. As part of the industrialization program, the enterprise commissioned two workshops for the production of salt by Spanish technology. This is expected to double the productivity and provide jobs for more than 1,200 people.
Head of the Industrial and Innovative Development Department of Kyzylorda region Rinat Sultangereyev has previously noted that Araltuz successfully meets the needs of Kazakhstan and in addition covers 12 percent of Russia's salt market.
Moreover, since last year, the supply of Aral salt to Azerbaijan was launched, and presently work is underway to start deliveries to China.
As for the price of salt in Kazakhstan, it practically does not change – this October it rose by only 1.8 percent compared to October last year.
