Iran's East Azerbaijan province seeks to increase trade ties with Belarus, Governor of East Azerbaijan Mohammad Pour Mohammadi told Trend.

"Since the recent meeting with the Belarus ambassador in Tehran, there have been discussions to increase the province's economic, cultural and scientific interactions with Belarus," he said.

"Belarus ambassador has good knowledge of the region and has promised to send a delegation to Tehran for more expert negotiations. We have also expressed our readiness to show him the capacities of the province," he said.

"Previously there have been discussions over mutual cooperation in trade and terrestrial cultivation but unfortunately they have not been successful, " he said.

"Considering Iran's membership in the Eurasian Union and the efforts to improve the ties with member countries, Belarus ambassador has promised to do something about it," Pour Mohammadi added.

Iran and Eurasia have recently implemented an agreement on preferential trade on 862 products. The agreement will have advantage of tariff discounts for trade between the EEU and Iran.

"The capacities of the province in various field especially mineral industry, petrochemical, sweets and chocolate, carpet, leather and manufacturing parts should be introduced to Belarus," Pour Mohammadi added.

"Considering joint capacities in agriculture sector and regarding building agricultural machinery there is a need to reach a mutual interaction with Belarus to have joint cooperation in this field," he said.
