By Elnur Baghishov – Trend:
A new plant will be put into operation in the Kaleybar Nepheline Syenite Complex in the East Azerbaijan Province (north-western Iran), Head of the Kaleybar Nepheline Syenite Complex Alireza Khoshmagam said, Trend reports citing Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization (IMIDRO).
The official noted that there is currently a 99-percent physical progress in the construction of this plant. After the launch, the plant will produce 40,000 tons of nepheline syenite per year.
Thus, the production of the complex will increase to 55,000 tons per year. About 160 people will be employed with the operation of the plant, Khoshmagam added.
“It is hoped that the operation of this plant will provide for the import substitution, as far as nepheline syenite goes, as well as create conditions for the export of this product," he said.
Also, according to Khoshmagam, the construction of two more plants in the Kaleybar Nepheline Syenite complex began in March 2019. After these plants start operating, the overall production of the complex will increase to 150,000 tons per year.
He also emphasized that the complex produced 4,120 tons of nepheline syenite during the first 6 months of the current Iranian year (March 21 through September 22, 2021), which is an increase of 56 percent, compared to the same period last Iranian year.
“Meanwhile, in the same period last Iranian year, the figure stood at 2,640 tons, he said.
Reportedly, nepheline syenite is a mineral used in the manufacture of aluminum, glass, ceramics, rubber and other products.
