Azerbaijan, Baku, Sept.7. / Trend E.Ismayilov /

The Sate Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) produces 12 million cubic meters of gas per day from the fields belonging to SOCAR's Oil and Gas Production Unity (OGPU) "28 May", a source in SOCAR said. The shallow-water Guneshli field is the largest oil and gas field developed by SOCAR independently. This field also belongs to the "28 May" OGPU.

The fields "Chilov" and "Hazi Aslanov" are also under the management of the "28 May" OGPU.

Despite the fact that gas production is currently limited due to the reduction of gas consumption [in connection with the summer season], the daily production of the OGPD is 12.5 million cubic meters of gas, the source added.

Oil production from the fields, which are under the management of the "28 May" OGPU, is about 14,400 tons.

The company is drilling several wells to increase oil production in the shallow-water Guneshli field, the source said.

SOCAR plans to produce approximately 6.9 billion cubic meters of gas from the shallow-water Guneshli field in 2009, the other source said.

The shallow-water Guneshli field is the largest oil and gas field developed by SOCAR independently. SOCAR produces 60 percent of its oil output and 70 percent of gas output from this field. The field belongs to SOCAR's Oil and Gas Production Unity (OGPU) "28 May".

Under its own gas program, SOCAR plans to produce 8 billion cubic meters of gas from fields being developed independently and 7 billion of this volume will be transferred to the state. The rest will be used for the company's own needs to pump into reservoirs to increase oil production from fields.
