Azerbaijan's energy resources will play a role in the European and world economy and in the energy security of Europe, said the UK Prime Minister David Cameron in a letter addressed to the 22nd international Caspian Oil and Gas Exhibition held in Baku.
Cameron also said he is delighted that the UK companies are playing an important role in the continuing development of Azerbaijan's hydrocarbon sector.
"Europe has to diversify routes and resources of energy, and the Southern Gas Corridor has important role in this," said Cameron.
He also congratulated the government of Azerbaijan on the successful first meeting of the Southern Gas Corridor Advisory Board in Baku and the recent the groundbreaking ceremony for the Trans Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline (TANAP).
Cameron went on to add that it is important to ensure that TANAP is realized in timely and effective manner.
"I am confident that this ambitious project will become reality and pleased that BP plays its role in its development," he added.
"As a close friend of Azerbaijan we wish all partners involved further success in their efforts to provide stable source of energy for many years to come," said Cameron.
The Southern Gas Corridor is one of the priority energy projects for the EU. It envisages the transportation of gas from the Caspian Sea region to the European countries through Georgia and Turkey.
At the initial stage, the gas to be produced as part of the Stage 2 of development of Azerbaijan's Shah Deniz field is considered as the main source for the Southern Gas Corridor projects. Other sources can also connect to this project at a later stage.
As part of the Stage 2 of the Shah Deniz development, gas will be exported to Turkey and European markets by expanding the South Caucasus Pipeline and the construction of Trans-Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline and Trans-Adriatic Pipeline.
