By Huseyn Hasanov – Trend:

Turkmenistan produced 33,300 tons of petroleum coke in January-March 2018, which is 25 percent more than in the same period last year, Nebit-Gaz reports.

At the same time, the volume and value of export of this oil product increased dramatically by 87 and 84.1 percent, respectively.

The report says that the bulk of the local petroleum coke is produced in the Balkan region at an oil refinery in the city of Turkmenbashi.

In 2017, 146,300 tons of this oil product were produced in the country. In November 2017, it was reported that the oil refinery in Turkmenbashi entered agreement with WTL consortium of companies from UAE and Wesport Trading Europe Ltd. Company from the US for construction of a delayed coking unit, which will increase the oil processing depth to 94 percent and ensure the production of 191,000 tons of petroleum coke per year.

Petroleum coke is used in chemical, metallurgical, space and nuclear industries.

"The properties of Turkmen raw materials and their quantity allow maintaining high quality and the lowest possible prices for this oil product in comparison with the countries that are leading in its production but do not possess the necessary natural resources [US, China and Japan]," Nebit-Gaz reports.
