Iranian President Hassan Rouhani will travel to the West Azerbaijan province of Iran to attend the opening of the new combined cycle power plant in Maku next week.

"The first phase of the combined cycle power plant with an 80-MW output capacity will start its operation next week," Mehr News Agency reported quoting the managing director of the plant Samad Pashapour as saying.

“It is expected average annual capacity of 100 to 150 megawatts will be added to the plant's capacity. While the equipment of this process was imported in 2016, the program was delayed due to weather conditions and rainfall," he said.

According to the official, 70 percent of total finance is provided by foreign investments. A Chinese state owned company is the first direct investor of the combined cycle power plant.

"The domestic sector has provided 30 percent of the credits used in this plant. Some €40 million in the first phase and €30 million in the second phase were invested. A contract worth of €40 million has been signed for the gas section of the plant, where construction and utilization are ongoing," Pashapour said.

"Considering the economic regulations of the free economic zones, we expect return of capital in 5 years. Meanwhile, the gas supply of this plant to 21,000 cubic meters per day is being provided through Turkey's gas pipeline,” he said.
