The Uzbek Ministry of Energy has signed three agreements worth up to $2 billion with ACWA Power (Saudi Arabia), the developer of energy services for the development of the energy industry, Trend reports with reference to press service of the Uzbek Ministry of Energy.

The signed documents include:

A 25-year Power Purchase Agreement with a total value of $1.2 billion for the development, construction and operation of a 1,500 MW combined cycle gas turbine power plant;

The 1,500 MW combined cycle gas turbine power plant will be located in the Shirin town, Syrdarya region. JSC National Electric Grids of Uzbekistan is the sole buyer under the power purchase agreement.

The efficiency of the combined cycle power plant unit will exceed 60 percent, which will save almost twice the amount of natural gas currently used for electricity production at the thermal power plant operating there.

As part of the agreement signed with the Ministry of Energy for the use of natural RES, ACWA Power will use wind power to generate 500-1000 MW of clean energy in the country.

A third agreement between the Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan, Air Products & Chemicals (USA) and ACWA Power provides training programs to enhance the technical skills of students to train specialists in the energy and chemical sectors in Uzbekistan at the Shirin College.

The agreements reflect Uzbekistan's growing role in the global energy market, its commitment to energy security and the use of state-of-the-art technology. It also indicates that Uzbekistan is becoming an attractive location for foreign investors.
