Turkish BOTAS company reveals oil transportation volume via BTC pipeline

BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 15

More than 19.6 million barrels of oil were transported via the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) oil pipeline in March 2020, which is 10.6 percent (21.9 million barrels) less compared to the same period of last year, Turkey’s BOTAS Petroleum Pipeline Corporation told Trend on May 15.

According to the company, in the first quarter of this year, about 57.6 million barrels of oil were transported via the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline.

In 2019, 235.2 million barrels of oil were transported through the BTC pipeline, which is 7.8 percent less than in 2018.

The total length of the BTC pipeline is 1,768 kilometers, of which 443 kilometers run through the territory of Azerbaijan, 249 kilometers run through Georgia, and 1,076 kilometers go through Turkey. The construction of the pipeline began in April 2003, and it was first filled with oil on May 18, 2005.
